Confetti Cake Pops Summary

The objective of this assignment was to create a 30-second introduction for my how-to video. I chose to make my how-to video based on confetti cake pops (they were really hard to make). The sequence needed to include a title and at least three credits. I honestly had no idea what confetti cake pops were until bath and body works came out with a fragrance of the same name.

What are Confetti cake pops?

A Confetti cake pop is a form of cake styled as a lollipop covered with sprinkles. Cake crumbs are mixed with icing and formed into small spheres or cubes in the same way as cake balls, before being given a coating of icing or other decorations and attached to lollipop sticks. Confetti cake pops can be a way of using up leftover cake or cake crumbs.

Many recipes found online use a cake mix instead of a cake batter from scratch. While more convenient, it doesn’t necessarily deliver the same result. The from scratch cake recipes yield cake that tends to be denser than store-bought mixes, performing better especially after mixed with homemade frosting. The denser cake is stiffer, making it easier to shape the balls and attach the sticks. Store bought mix yields a lighter cake that doesn’t harden as much, and the sticks tend to slip out after attached.

Storyboard Sketches

This was my original storyboard for how I wanted to animate for my title sequence of confetti cake pops. I originally had the idea for the stick to come up from the bottom and have the cake ball come down from above and have the jimmies pouring onto the screen as they land onto the cake pop. Haven’t realized that the video had to be 30 seconds, I had to think of a way to add more footage to my title sequence since my original idea was too short.

I had begun illustrating the confetti cake pops using Adobe Illustrator. I was aiming for the art style of my title sequence to be flat but with a dash of shading to make them “Pop”.

Animation Process

After I had finished illustrating my illustrations for my confetti cake pops title sequence, I had begun animating my piece based on the 30 seconds given to create the title sequence to the confetti cake pops. As you can see I had nested certain scenes into separate compositions to combine them into one whole video.

Final Confetti Cake Pops Title Sequence

After days and hours of putting my heart into this animation piece, I finally managed to animate something that I can be considered proud. In the end, the biggest challenge I faced with was coming up with assets and placing them where I would like them, along with creating different transitions through the title sequence. But other than that, I am quite pleased with the outcome of my title sequence of confetti cake pops.
